Is a dinosaur party a good idea when the guest list has almost all adults? Yes, of course! When Caleb’s mom got in touch with me to plan her son’s first birthday party, with a dinosaur theme in mind, I was immediately excited! It was a great chance to create something chic and playful at the same time.
The Venue
I scoured several event venues in Atlanta, as I was looking for a spot that would fill several needs. It had to be rustic yet modern, have an outdoorsy feel, be able to seat 50 guests, be completely private, and also be centrally located to most of the guests.
My search ended with the most perfect location. The Creek Terrace at Ray’s Killer Creek checked all the boxes, and fit my client’s budget appropriately as well. The Creek Terrace is a spacious outdoor patio surrounded by lush trees and flowers that overlooks a creek and a forest preserve. The best setting I could possibly find for a dinosaur-themed lunch party!
The Details
For the decor, we kept it stylish and on trend with palm leaves, rustic dessert platters, and woodsy centerpieces. Gold dinosaurs, calligraphic fonts, and a beautiful organic balloon arch with fresh greenery incorporated more fun modern details!
Cultural Traditions
Honoring Caleb’s mom’s side of the family, we planned a traditional Doljabi ceremony to take place right after lunch, but before the birthday cake was cut. Doljabi is a tradition where the child is placed in front of various items or objects. Then, the child is encouraged to grab one or two items from the set of objects where each choice represents a certain future of the child with respect to his or her career, or a lifestyle. Caleb picked an encyclopedia! I’m planning to check in with him in a few years, he’s surely going to become a scholar!
